• End of August Update

Well friends, it’s been a while since we last spoke and BOY HOWDY has the scenery changed.   For starters, Sage and I both took a month off between travel assignments to “get some stuff done in Memphis.” Taking a month off of work was a bad idea, not because it caused any kind of financial strain, but because we had no real plan. We hem-hawed around our little house in Memphis lamenting the hot weather, cleaning, but not much else. However, Sage did see fit to get me an early birthday present. See the pic below.   While we enjoyed spending time with family and seeing how much our nieces and…

  • A Face For Radio

Walking has become an integral part of life here in New York. A quick glance at my Garmin watch tells me that I’ve walked nearly 75 miles this week. I’m not really sure where all those miles were accumulated, but I guess it makes sense. It used to take me around 3 months to noticeably ruin a pair of shoes. Now, I’ve whittled the life of shoes down to around 1 month. There were some incredible Skechers that I found at Costco for about $30. In retrospect, I should’ve bought like five pair of them at this price. I still wear them from time to time, but the outer sole…

  • Winter is… not coming

It was supposed to rain, but somehow the sun came out to make it super-hot. People are out in force when it’s sunny in NYC. Especially French-speaking peoples for some reason. Sage insisted that we “were totally gonna do something.” She huffed when I didn’t seem too enthused. My problem was that she had no idea what we were going to do. There were a million choices, and that’s just too many choices. I had choice fatigue. I told her that I would meet up with her somewhere. She wasn’t impressed You see, Sage had Don-fatigue. This drove her to promptly leave to drop our laundry off and then head…

  • Scooters

Living in New York City is weird. Probably not for any of the reasons which you are thinking. It almost doesn’t make sense that New York is one contiguous city because each neighborhood is actually its own city. Sometimes these city-neighborhoods are as small as 10 city blocks by 10 city blocks. Our city-neighborhood is the Upper West Side, but more specifically Central Park West between 79th and 89th . When walking the dogs at 4:50 am you would hardly ever know you were in the “city that never sleeps.” Which is one of the reasons I like waking up early. I feel like I have the neighborhood to myself.…

  • A Very Chinny Day

I didn’t really hear my alarm this morning. This was evidenced by me waking up to “Don…..Don…….DONNNNNN!!!” I guess Sage didn’t enjoy hearing Ryan Innes that early in the morning. I actually feel rested today. It’s kind of a difference from normal. I like to burn the candles at both ends for some reason. I love to stay up way past when I should go to sleep, and I also love to wake up much earlier than socially acceptable. Needless to say, sleep and I have a complicated relationship.        The dogs were super excited for their walks this morning. I give them each separate walks so I can give each of…

  • A Stroll Down W 81st

“We are all measuring our personal potential against our current situation.” The words of Paul David Tripp echoed in my head as I walked Chevy down W 82nd.       If you know anything about me, you know I’m an early riser. I love to get up at an ungodly hour so that I have time to exercise, read, meditate, or study before I go to work. We no longer have a backyard, so I have to take both dogs for nice morning walks.        Chevy may be the world’s most anxious dog. He is the dog equivalent of the Dave Chappelle character Tyrone. Really twitchy and almost stressed that the world even exists.…

  • It’s Good to Be Done

Today marks the one month anniversary of moving into our freshly renovated house. For some reason we decided that December would be the perfect time to move into our almost finished house. I’d say it’s about 95% finished. There are a few spots that still need trim and shoe moulding. To get to this 95% we rushed around for the latter part of November and most of our off days (and some days when we were working after work) in December and moved into our new house on December 26, 2018. We both worked Christmas Eve Eve, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. These were 16-18 hour days for me. The…

  • This Old House and the Beach

Sage and I have been keeping ourselves very busy as of late. Along with working our respective nursing schedules, we have bought a house and are doing some updating. This is all very hard work. As Sage would say, “I have a new appreciation for construction people.” Truer words have n’er been spoken. We had taken off around 2 weeks in the month of May. The original plan was to use this time to go on another epic adventure to some far away place. The reality was that we had just invested in a new house that desperately needed updating. So we did the adult thing and spent most of…

  • 10-10-17 – The First Day of Our Northwest Adventure

This is a post from a previous adventure we took to the pacific northwest. A month before we were married, we flew into Vancouver… The trip really started the day before we left. There were several errands to run and things to do before we left. One of those tasks was to drop off my bulldog at a friend’s house. I’m always a little sad when I have to drop him off somewhere. I know that he doesn’t really enjoy being away from me for any length of time, and that feeling is mutual. Sage and I ran our errands all day and then we went our respective ways to…

  • Warning!! Active Construction Zone!

Sage has made herself an admin of this website. You might see some drastic changes, and you may hear her huffs of fury as she tries to Internet. Just know that she’s figuring this internet stuff out, and that at some point this website will be amazing. Until then, hold tight. -Don
